Austin, 1 November - The return to Circuit of The Americas brought nothing but gallant smiles to local Austenite Mark McKenzie from Ferrari of Houston. McKenzie, who has been racing in the North American Ferrari Challenge since 2008, maintained a consistent battle with his teammate and Trofeo Pirelli points leader, Ricardo Perez. The two drivers rivaled through the 3.4-mile circuit before McKenzie ultimately overtook Perez at Turn 1 halfway through the race. Gregory Romanelli, from Ferrari of Ft. Lauderdale, retained his third place start throughout the race and finished only 0.8 seconds behind Perez.
Of the Coppa Shell drivers, the victory went to James Weiland from Ferrari of San Francisco who led from the start all the way to the finish line. As for the second place finisher, Robert Herjavec from Ferrari of Ontario began today’s race fourth in class but fought his way to step on the podium. And Ross Garber, another local to Austin driving for Ferrari of San Francisco, closed the Coppa Shell podium with a third place finish.
The racing action doesn’t conclude until tomorrow when the second and final race of the season will go green at 11:00 AM CDT, with the United States Grand Prix following suite at 2:00 PM CDT.
