Ferrari Challenge Europe – Coppa Shell
Chasing Bianchi and Scheltema in Turkey

Istanbul, 23 October–The Ferrari Challenge Europe Trofeo Pirelli resumes this weekend at Turkey’s spectacular Istanbul Park circuit. As usual there are four races on the card, split equally between the Trofeo Pirelli and the Coppa Shell. With four rounds remaining, the battle in the latter category is still wide open between two Kessel Racing drivers, Italy’s Massimiliano Bianchi and Dutchman Fons Scheltema.
Still all to play for: On 147 points, Bianchi has a 24 point lead over Scheltema who is on 123, the gap being just over the points allocated for a win. So anything can happen, even if Bianchi is on a high after a double win in Silverstone, both times beating Belgium’s Jacques Duyver into second place, which would seem to make him favourite. Apart from the top two, the title seems a lost cause. The aforementioned Duyver is third, but he only has 89 points. Behind him come Italy’s Ernesto Prinoth (81) and Canada’s Rick Lovat (74).
Gentleman Fons. The Coppa Gentleman, for drivers aged over 55, appears to be done and dusted in favour of Fons Scheltema. He has a 42 point lead over Prinoth (Ineco-MP Racing) and 49 over Lovat (Kessel Racing.) In the video below, we relive the most exciting moments from the two Coppa Shell races at Silverstone.
