12th September 2014. TV Celebrity Chef, Gordon Ramsay, joined Ferrari North Europe at the Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire this morning to bring a Ray of Sunshine to 50 children who had a once-in-a-lifetime thrill ride in a Ferrari 458 Spider as part of the Ferrari Racing Days event taking place this weekend. Long-time Ferrari fanatic, Ramsay is also a passionate ambassador for Rays of Sunshine, which grants wishes to children living with serious or life-limiting illnesses and who had travelled from all over the UK to attend the Ferrari 458 Spider Experience.
“Today has been an absolutely amazing day,” Gordon commented. “It is just incredible to see these kids smiling and having so much fun. Everyone knows that my favourite word begins with an ‘F’… Ferrari. I’ve been signing all their t-shirts and they all want selfies, so it’s been a great privilege for me as well.”
Aged from five upwards, the children had travelled from all over the UK to attend the Ferrari 458 Spider Experience. The day was much anticipated by the group, many of whom have been battling serious illness, coping with personal bereavement or acting as a carer to family members. The event was also supported by BEN, the automotive industry’s own benevolent fund, which aims to provide assistance, care and other support for families in the industry who have suffered hardship, bereavement or serious illnesses.
Francesco Balli, Regional Manager for Ferrari North Europe, commented: “Over the last five years, we have entertained over 250 exceptional children and we look forward to brightening the lives of many more in the years to come. Enzo Ferrari once said ‘Ferrari is a dream. For most, it will remain a dream… except for those luck few.’ Today, these children were the lucky few.”
The Ferrari activity at Silverstone continues throughout the weekend with an exciting programme of racing and track demonstrations from the F1 Clienti cars, XX Programme and Round 4 of the European Ferrari Challenge one-make racing series for Gentleman Drivers. The Ferrari Owners Club is also on track with a range of Ferrari cars that compete in the Pirelli Ferrari Open racing series for Ferrari cars up to 20 years old.
Ferrari North Europe will also be celebrating its incredible achievement in 2012, when it set the Guinness World Record for the Largest Parade of Ferrari Cars with an amazing 964 cars on track at the same time. Ferrari owners will be invited to drive in a parade around the circuit on Saturday lunchtime, to relive some of those special moments.
