Watkins Glen, NY, 20 September – Under the cloudy skies of Watkins Glen International, 27 drivers showcased their talent and competitive enthusiasm in the second to last round of the North American Ferrari Challenge. Emmanuel Anassis of Ferrari of Quebec took his victory in the Trofeo Pirelli class, overtaking the pole leader and fastest qualifier Ryan Ockey of Ferrari of Ontario within the first few turns of the race. The overall points leader in the series, Ricardo Perez from Ferrari of Houston, began in fifth position on the grid but finished second on the podium after a hard-fought battle with John Farano (Ferrari Ontario). And although Ryan Ockey was in the chase with Anassis, he finished third overall.
The Coppa Shell class saw a new podium finisher as Ross Garber, from Ferrari of San Francisco, led from start to finish. This is Garber’s best finish in his rookie year. Finishing the Coppa Shell podium were John Baker (Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale) and Robert Herjavec (Ferrari of Ontario).
The drivers will race again tomorrow for Race 2 of the Ferrari Challenge weekend with the green flag waving at 1:50 PM EST.
