Maranello, 14 July –There was a win and other strong performances from Ferraris competing in the fifth and sixth rounds of the GT Asia championship at the Fuji circuit. Saturday saw Clearwater Racing record an important win with the 458 Italia GT3, driven by Japan’s Keita Sawa and the Malaysian Mok Weng Sun. The victory was built on a good qualifying with the duo taking pole position so that the number 3 car had a clear track ahead, out of harm’s way from the chaos of the start.
Indeed, while the Clearwater Racing car got away in the lead, the wet track led to incidents behind them, which meant the race director called out the Safety Car. After the restart, Mok Weng Sun kept his concentration to win again, just as he did a year ago here in Fuji. Also worthy of note was a third place for Davide Rizzo and Anthony Liu in the BBT team’s 458, behind series leaders Rob Bell and Hiroshi Hamaguchi in the Clearwater Racing McLaren. There was also a podium finish in the GTM class with a second place for the Taiwan Top Speed 458 Challenge driven by Denmark’s Thomas Fjordback and the Taiwanese driver Craig Liu. One step ahead was Canada’s Wayne Shen in a Porsche.
Saturday’s winners had to settle for second place on Sunday behind the Absolute Racing Audi driven by Taiwan’s Jeffrey Lee and the German Christopher Mies. There was another podium in GTM for the second Taiwan Top Speed 458 Challenge, crewed by Samson Chan and George Chou.
