Plymouth, WI, 11 July – The North American Ferrari Challenge returns to Road America near Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, for a weekend of thrilling racing. The last time the Challenge cars took to this famed track was four years ago and twenty-six drivers will again bring the 458 Challenge EVOs to the track, known for its high speeds and tight corners.
The Mexican Ricardo Perez (Ferrari of Houston), winner of Race 2 at Mont Tremblant, leads the Trofeo Pirelli class with 145 points. Perez continues to increase his gap over the Canadian brothers from Ferrari of Toronto, Damon and Ryan Ockey. Both stand with 103 and 100 points respectively. In the Coppa Shell division, Chris Ruud (Ferrari of Beverly Hills) augmented his points lead to a 43-point advantage over his teammate, Jon Becker. James Weiland (Ferrari of San Francisco) is third with 102 points.
Road America is one of only a handful of road circuits in the world maintaining its original configuration: 4.048 miles in length with 14 turns. The track features many elevation changes, along with a long front stretch where speeds approaching 200 mph may be reached. One of the best known features of this course is a turn on the backside known as "the kink”, a perfect test for the new EVO package on the 458 Challenge cars.
The first of the two races this weekend will take place Saturday afternoon at 2:15 PM CDT following with Race 2 on Sunday at 1:45 PM CDT.
