Portimao, 19 July - On the circuit in Portugal’s Algarve, the first of two races of the fourth round of the Ferrari Challenge Europe took place today, as the final round before the summer break.
Taking the win in the Pro category of the Trofeo Pirelli was Italy’s Daniele Di Amatao in the Motor Piacenza car, his third win of the year. 17.214 seconds behind him came his English team-mate Alexander Martin, with Austria’s Philipp Baron third (Octane 126) who set the race fastest lap in 1.49.858.
In the Am category, Argentina’s Exequiel Perez Companc drove a spectacular race to win overall. Exactly a year ago, at this very same track, the young Companc made his motorsport debut. Second was Italy’s Raffaele Giannoni (Motor Piacenza,) while third was another Italian Giacomo Stratta of Forza Service.
In the Coppa Shell fastest was Italy’s Massimiliano Bianchi (Kessel Racing) who drove a fantastic race and set the fastest lap in 1’50’’352. Bianchi, starting from row 3 and running a very fast pace managed the first part of the race before mounting the decisive attack on Eric Prinoth (Ineco - MP Racing) who came second. Third was Belgium’s Jacques Duyver (Motor Piacenza). It was an unlucky race for the pole man Dirk Adamski (Saggio Racing Team) who retired. Max Bianchi, thus goes into the lead of the Coppa Shell, overtaking Dutchman Scheltema (Kessel Racing).
The second Coppa Shell race gets underway at 14h00 tomorrow, with the 458 Challenge Evo cars back on track for the second Trofeo Pirelli event at 16h00.
