Brno, 21 June - It was a really exciting Saturday at the track in the Czech Republic with the first of two races in the third round of the Ferrari Challenge Europe. Alexander Martin the English Motor Piacenza driver took his maiden victory in the Pro category, ahead of Italy’s Dario Caso who fought his way up the order and the Slovak Oknaj driving for Scuderia Praha.
In the AM category, Russia’s Vadim Gitlin (Kessel Racing,) started from pole and got through the first corner battle unscathed to take his first win in the series, ahead of Italy’s Raffael Giannoni (Motor Piacenza) and Thomas Kukucka (Scuderia Praha-Dino & Co.) On the first lap, the Safety Car had to come out immediately after Florian Merckx and Giacomo Stratta collided, fortunately without injury.
As for the Coppa Shell, Italy’s Massimiliano Bianchi was the fastest man on track in the Kessel Racing car, leading from start to finish. He also set the fastest lap in 2.07.085. Right behind him was Belgium’s Jacques Duyver (AF Corse) and another Italian Eric Prinoth (Ineco-MP Racing) who still leads the Coppa Gentlemen.
It all starts again with the second race of the Trofeo Pirelli at 14.05, with Race 2 in the Coppa Shell starting at 16.20.
