Scarperia, 16 May –Mugello hosts the second round of the Ferrari Challenge Europe this weekend and today was given over to free practice. The pressure ramps up tomorrow on the 5.245 kilometre track in Tuscany, as qualifying for the Coppa Shell gets underway at 9.55, with the Trofeo Pirelli runners going out at 11.15.
The favourites came out on top in free practice today. In the Trofeo Pirelli Pro, fastest in the first session was Austria’s Philipp Baron (team Octane 126) with a 1.52.754, while Daniele Di Amato (Motor/Piacenza) the highest placed competitor in the championship taking part this weekend, lying second ahead of Dario Caso (Rossocorsa – Pellin Racing.) In the Trofeo Pirelli Am, quickest was the Forza Service 458 Challenge EVO of Giacomo Stratta. Also showing well were Alessandro Vezzoni (Rossocorsa-Pellin Racing) and Russia’s Vadim Gitlin in the Kessel Racing car.
As for the Coppa Shell, quickest was Canada’s Rick Lovat (Kessel Racing) whose best lap was a 1.54.227. Proving he was immediately at ease on the Mugello rollercoaster of a track was championship leader Massimiliano Bianchi (Kessel Racing) and Sweden’s Tommy Lindroth (Baron Service.)
The first races also take place tomorrow with the first Trofeo Pirelli race underway at 14.50, while the roar of the 458 Challenge Evo cars in the Coppa Shell will be heard at 16.45. Both races last 30 minutes plus one lap. It’s free to get in and an exciting time is guaranteed!
