Imola, 18 May –Ferraris were the stars of the show at Imola in the second round of the European Le Mans Series. In fact, cars run by the Maranello marque’s customer teams took all three podium places in the two categories in which they were entered, the LMGTE and GTC, the latter featuring mainly amateur racers.
The LMGTE win went to the SMP Racing car crewed by Italy’s Andrea Bertolini, who drove an amazing final stint and the Russians, Vikto Shaitar and Sergey Zlobin. They crossed the line ahead of the similar Kessel Racing car, driven by Italians Matteo Cressoni and Thomas Kemenater and the Nigerian Kolawole Aluko and the JMW Motorsport entry, made up of Italy’s Daniel Zampieri and the British duo of Daniel McKenzie and George Richardson.
In GTC, the win went to the Formula Racing 458 Italia GT3; at the wheel the Italian Andrea Piccini and the Danes Mikkel Mac and Johnny Laursen. The other two podium places went to SMP Racing, which effectively made it to every step of the podium across the two categories, with the Russians David Markozov and Anton Ladygin and, from Monaco, Olivier Beretta, and with two other Russians Kirill Ladygin and Aleksey Basov, plus Italy’s Luca Persiani.
The overall win went to the Jota Sport Zytek in the hands of Simon Dolan, Harry Tinknell and Felipe Albuquerque. The series now takes a bit of a break, to avoid a date class for its participants who are also entered in the Le Mans 24 Hours. Therefore, the next round is on 19-20 July at Zeltweg, in Austria.
