Maranello, 28 April – There was a win and two other podium placings for Ferrari in the third round of the Pirelli World Challenge held at the Barber circuit in Alabama at the weekend. All the podiums were the work of Ferri Motorsports and the 458 Italia GT3. The win came in race 1, courtesy of Anthony Lazzaro, a native of Acworth, Georgia, at the wheel of car 61. He crossed the line ahead of Johnny O’Connell in a Cadillac and another Ferrari, the number 16 458 Italia GT3, in the hands of 27 year old Nick Mancuso from Lake Forest.
Lazzaro also set the fastest race lap, beating his rivals by over 2 seconds as they came across the line almost together, with O’Connell just beating Mancuso by less than four tenths.
Lazzaro came close to doing the double in race 2, but had to give best to the Audi of Andrew Palmer from Chicago, just 531 thousandths of a second separating them at the line. Behind them, yet again it was a fight between O’Connell and Mancuso, with the Cadillac driver again beating the Ferrari man by a whisker to stand on the bottom rung of the podium. The next race takes place at the end of May at the Belle Isle circuit in Detroit, Michigan.
