Sonoma, 25 April – The North American Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli will make its return to Sonoma Raceway in California after an exciting season opener as a support race to the 24 Hours of Daytona. The event marks the second of the nine races for the 2014 season. A field of 31 drivers – 12 in the Trofeo Pirelli and 19 in the Coppa Shell – will debut the 458 Challenge EVO, the 8-cylinder race spec'd model derived from the 458 Italia, and the fifth to be used in this one-make series. The additions to the 458 Challenge EVO feature a new aerodynamic kit which emphasizes performance, and a rear wing based on the one used in GT races, giving the cars much greater corner speed.
The highly-anticipated race weekend will begin today with five rounds of practice sessions. Following suite, Saturday will feature the first qualifying and race, with a further qualifying and the second race on Sunday. Racing fans and Ferraristi from all over the Bay Area are invited to attend the race and enjoy an open paddock area, the Ferrari car corral and festive atmosphere.
The Sonoma Raceway is recognized for its steep elevation changes set among the rolling hills and world-renowned California wineries. Following Sonoma, the Ferrari Challenge will race at Laguna Seca, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Mont Tremblant, Road America, Watkins Glen, and the CoTA in Austin before the Finali Mondiali in Abu Dhabi culminates the season at the end of the year.
